About the Lothian Diary Project
Covid-19 has changed life as we know it...
We’ve all had to adapt to changes in our day-to-day lives. Some changes have been more difficult than others, and affect each of us in different ways. The Lothian Diary Project is investigating how Covid-19 has affected all of us here in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
The project investigates questions of public health, communication, and social variation among residents of Edinburgh and the Lothians in relation to COVID-19. The project draws on individuals’ personal accounts of the pandemic, in the form of video/audio diary data recorded by Lothian residents between 1 May 2020 and 15 July 2021. The intimate, immediate, and spontaneous nature of video/audio diaries makes them a unique, time-sensitive data resource for assessing drivers of individual experience, including:
- uptake of public health measures,
- impacts on mental health, and
- drivers of hardship, anxiety, and stigma.
The Lothian Diary Project is part of Edinburgh Speaks and made possible by a cross-school collaboration between linguists, psychotherapists, political scientists, and data scientists at the University of Edinburgh.
